Siemens to produce 1 million EV chargers by 2025 in the US
Siemens set forth its commitment to expand and invest in its operations in the United States to support e-mobility infrastructure in America. The company is going to strengthen its existing VersiCharge Level 2 AC product line of commercial and residential EV chargers. With this commitment, Siemens is ready to manufacture over 1 million EV chargers for the US over the next four years.
The company is currently conducting local site evaluations as it is planning to install a new factory to meet the accelerating electric vehicle charging infra demand, expand its manufacturing capabilities, and will support 100’s of jobs across the manufacturing site and regional supply chain at all levels in the United States. With the breakthrough coming from the Biden-Harris administration, the company shares are growing in the US market, however, it did not disclose how much it is going to spend. The new plant will serve as an alternative for the company’s already existing operations in Wendell, North Carolina, where the company manufactures charging solutions for heavy-duty electric vehicles including buses and trucks. This location also works with local educational institutions including Wake Tech Community College for training and workforce development and North Carolina State University. Additionally, to explore eMobility solutions, Siemens also runs a research and development headquarter in Peachtree Corners, Georgia.
“We’re incredibly encouraged by the continued commitment from the Administration and the Senate’s bipartisan approval of a landmark $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill, which includes a $7.5 billion investment to build electric vehicle stations, and Siemens is answering the call to accelerate electric vehicle charging production in the United States,” said John DeBoer, Director of Siemens eMobility solutions and Future Grid Business in North America at Senate floor. He also added, “This latest manufacturing investment proves Siemens will continue to support crucial improvements in America’s infrastructure, manufacturing and electrified transportation that will make our economy more resilient, competitive, and sustainable.”
The existing Siemens eMobility solutions including DC and AC chargers are expanded in all the 50 states that rank from in-home chargers to depots to charging infrastructure systems that power electrified bus lines in some of the biggest cities in the country. The Siemens PlugtoGrid eMobility product portfolio encloses electrical equipment, charging infrastructure hardware, software and services in the EV market across North America. The solutions are adjusted to maximize the abilities of EVs to act as Distributed Energy Resources and also enable the effective harnessing of renewable sources.
In addition to charging equipment, this year the company has also launched the new Business Cargo Network for corporate clients. However, so far, Siemens only provides the service in Europe together along with DCS, and it remains to be seen if it will spill over to the US in future.
